NCI Thesaurus |
An aqueous dilution of ethanol containing 70% ethanol by volume. |
Formalin |
Formaldehyde Solution |
C62229 |
NCI Thesaurus |
A saturated solution of formaldehyde, water, and typically another agent, most commonly methanol. In its typical form, formalin is 37% formaldehyde by weight (40% by volume), 6-13% methanol, and the rest water. Formaldehyde provides the disinfectant and bacteriacide/germacide effects of formalin. The water content of provides a dilution of formaldehyde and the methanol content stabilizes the naturally chemically unstable formaldehyde compound. |

C727 |
NCI Thesaurus |
Paraffin is a common name for a group of high molecular weight alkane hydrocarbons with the general formula CnH2n+2, where n is between 22 and 27. Paraffin is also a technical name for an alkane in general, but in most cases it refers specifically to a linear, or normal alkane. It is mostly found as a white, odorless, tasteless, waxy solid, with a melting point between 47C and 65C. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in ether, benzene, and certain esters. Paraffin is unaffected by most common chemical reagents but oxidizes readily. (from Wikipedia) |
