Support for the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy
Welcome to the NIH CDE Repository, hosted and maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM). If this is your first time here, you may be wondering how to use the Repository, and what it has to offer you.
Common Data Elements (CDEs) are data elements (or variables) that are defined and used the same way across multiple studies, to standardize the way data is collected. The use of CDEs supports the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy by making data from different studies more interoperable. The NIH CDE Repository can help you identify CDEs for your data management plan and your research.
Learning about CDEs for the first time?
- Try this self-paced tutorial: Common Data Elements: Standardizing Data Collection (about one hour).
Wondering how to find CDEs for your research in the NIH CDE Repository ?
- Watch the on-demand recording of the live class from October 2022: Standardize Your Research Data with the NIH Common Data Elements Repository (90 minutes).
Still not sure where to start?
- Take a look at NIH-Endorsed CDEs, which have been reviewed and approved by an expert panel, and meet established criteria. They are designated with a gold ribbon. New NIH-Endorsed CDEs will be added on a rolling basis.
