July 9, 2024
- We published the fourth collection of NIH-Endorsed CDEs: 13 COVID-19 Mitigation Policy CDEs from the NIH-funded Social, Behavioral, & Economic COVID Coordinating Center (SBE CCC). SBE CCC provides a nexus for communication on COVID-19 related research, streamlining information-sharing across the behavioral and social science community, multiple NIH award recipients, and the public. In addition, the project provides teaching materials, data, and opportunities to apply for pilot studies on the impacts of COVID-19 among minority populations.

- We published the third collection of NIH-Endorsed CDEs: 34 Core CDEs from Science Collaborative for Health disparities and Artificial intelligence bias REduction (ScHARe). ScHARe is a cloud-based platform for population science including social determinants of health (SDOH), and data sets designed to accelerate research in health disparities, health and healthcare delivery outcomes, and artificial intelligence (AI) bias mitigation strategies.

- NLM updated our on-demand class “Standardize Your Research Data with the Common Data Element (CDE) Repository” with NLM Navigators, which allow participants to do hands-on exercises in the live Repository while taking the class.

- With the NIH CDE Governance Committee, we released version 2024.01 of the CDE documentation (NIH credentials required for access), which included a new document: CDE Copyright Guidance for Submitters.

- We completed major copyright cleanup work, removing CDEs linked to forms that NLM does not have permission to display.

- With the NIH CDE Governance Committee, we released updated documentation including an updated Guide for Submitters, CDE Submission form, and two new items: Exemplar submission file and Copyright Guidance for Submitters.

- We published the second collection of NIH-Endorsed CDEs: NHLBI Collaborating Network of Networks for Evaluating COVID-19 and Therapeutic Strategies (CONNECTS) Organ Support CDEs. CONNECTS was formed with the aim of helping prevent COVID-19 infection, slow or halt disease progression, and speed recovery.

- We released enhancements that documented the Form search API, improved the usability and functionality of search results and CDE/Forms landing pages, and added “Bundle” attribute to Forms and CDEs.

- The first NIH-Endorsed collection of CDEs in the NIH CDE Repository were released. The Project 5 Tier 1 CDEs are intended to support a wide spectrum of translational, clinical, and applied COVID-19 research.
- We released a new home page design for improved usability, an expanded user guide, and multiple enhancements that support and promote NIH Endorsed CDEs (special filters, badging, search box tab).
- We improved usability for searches with no results, and improved search filters.
- We added an API filter for endorsed CDEs.

- We conducted a usability study to better understand our users' needs, and improve the user experience. As part of the study we performed an environmental scan, conducted user testing, and reviewed the technical infrastructure of the repository. The study resulted in a report and detailed recommendations.
